The Evolutionary Victory on the Sands of Kashmir

The prestigious Kargil war victory offered a high-ranking place for the Indian army among other developed countries' army, but that was not much easier, over 527 bravest souls rested for the nation. 

The Kargil war victory provided inspiration for the Indians and stunned other countries with its breathtaking unity of people towards victory. 

The victory was celebrated like a festival of all Indians keeping aside all the religion and community. 

The remarkable kargil war happened in the year 1999. At that time India was experiencing a harsh time by means of both economically and politically. Atal Bihari Vajpayee remains the temporary prime minister of India. During this unstable period, India faced Pakistan army in the kargil region. 

The Emergence of Kargil war 

Pakistan consistently maintained an unhealthy relationship with India after the partition and  intentionally made many attempts to recapture Kashmir. The kargil war was the last war between India and Pakistan and world's first war between countries with nuclear weapons. 

The Pakistan army's Chief General Pervez Musharraf and the army General Aziz Khan was the reason behind the kargil war. 

Especially Pervez Musharraf drafted the plan to conquer kargil and Nawaz Sharif, who remained the prime minister of Pakistan, joined hands with Pervez Musharraf and worked against India. 

Plan sorted by Pakistan 

Parvez Musharraf's plan was executed with the name "Operation Badr". 

The abstract of the operation Badr was

1. To cross the line of control of India. 

2. Initially conquering 700sq km of kargil region 

3. To eliminate the transport and communication between Ladakh and Srinagar. 

4. Attacking Srinagar and acquiring Jammu and Kashmir. 

Why was Pakistan more cruel to acquire kargil? 

The kargil is the district in Jammu and kashmir, located at an altitude of 2676m on Himalayan peak. It spreads over an area of 14,000 sq km. 

Kargil was just 205 km from Srinagar(capital of Jammu and Kashmir) and acted as a connecting bridge between Ladakh and Srinagar and it was, in addition, a major route for Ladakh trading. 

As kargil represented a vital role and acted as route of weapons supply for the Indian army, Pakistan chose to conquer kargil as a step to occupy Jammu and Kashmir. 

Execution of the Operation Badr 

In November, 1988 a troop of 1700 members crossed the line of control and entered Indian territory and the operation progressed well and they gradually started civilizing mountains of kargil but on the other side in the year 1999, in the month of may three shepherds using there binocular discovered the camps of Pakistan soldiers on the peaks of kargil and they rushed to Indian army camp and conveyed the information. A troop of Indian armies sent for surveillance but the unexpected happened, Pakistan soldiers began to fire on Indian soldiers. 

This news of infiltration of Pakistan army into Indian territory, pressurized the Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the prime minister of India and organized conference with government officials and decided to fight back the raider and initiate the operation Vijay. 

Indians on ground 

On May 26th operation Vijay was initiated, India forwarded towards the Pakistan soldiers together with Indian Air Force. 

Over 30,000 Indian soldiers progressed towards the Kargil region. Chief advantage on the side of Pakistan was the lofty altitude, which helped them to survey the progress of the Indian army. 

Therefore, India overcame this situation by proceeding during the night towards the Pakistan army. 

At that time, the Pakistan army was about 53 km away from kargil, at an altitude of 16,000 feet and India seemed to be lagging in many ways and was difficult to face the Pakistan army at high altitude. 

The quote "Where there is a will, there is a way" was true as besides their failure, the Indian Army raised back with a phenomenal move, As Pakistan was in higher altitude, it's difficult for them too, in case of weapon supply, food, medicines supply was risky for them. The Indian army detected that from the road behind the peaks; the required materials were supplied. The Indian army captured the roads that supplied the essentials for the Pakistan army. This apparently was a huge hurdle for the Pakistan army and the dominant role of Indian army left the Pakistan army shattered. 

End of war 

As the war Continued to be in favor to Indian army, the Pervez Musharraf decided to utilize nuclear weapons on India. As this information passed to Bill Clinton(president of America), he threatened Pakistan prime minister Nawaz Sharif on cancelling the 100million dollar loan, if the war continues. 

On July 2 after the talk with Bill Clinton, Nawaz Sharif accepted to terminate the war and also announced it officially. 

And on 26th July India announced its victory in the Kargil war and built an memorial to honor the soldiers works in kargil war. The day is known to be the Kargil Vijay Diwas. 

This victory seemed to be a remarkable one in Indian history with its small army and scientific technology at an very initial stage 

At present India has the world's sixth largest army with highly ranked officials. The kargil war seems to be a reminder to other countries before they clash with the Indian army.
